I have "FINALLY" got my DV300 card working with Premiere 5.2. I now need to be able to capture analogue footage as well as DV. Can I install another card as well, ie DC30+, without messing up the DV300 or should I use something like the portable Sony DV deck to convert to DV. What is the best/easiest/cheapest option. Any suggestions welcomed!

Sony Digtal 8 cam plus sony widget from datavision works out cheaper option than DV Walkman AND you get a camcorder into the bargain. Check with Datavision as I am only going on the latest ad. which states that Digital 8 Cams when 'widgeted' enables both the Digital AND Analogue inputs.

Adaptive Systems widget is actually cheaper. It is around £45 (I say around as you have to pay in Austrian currency, which is where the company is based). I've got a TRV-110 Digital-8 camera (£650 mail order) and the Adaptive Systems widget, the analogue and DV connections work in & out with this.

Thank you Colin and Ollie. One other question, I would want to add analogue footage to a DV edit, how would I use the digital 8 camera to produce the DV files required on computer?

There is two ways of using a digital 8 camera to convert analogue footage for digital files on the pc.

1. Plug the analogue machine into the analogue plugs on the camera and firewire on camera to card, play on analogue and capture to disk manually.

2. To batch capture or to use the timecode, you will need to copy the analogue footage to DV, do same as above but copy footage to a D8 (Hi8) tape on camera first, then capture via the firewire which will then be able to read the timecode.

I know method 1 works with a DVRaptor, and would assume that it will work with other cards (as long as you don't need timecode to capture), if timecode is required to capture everything will need to be converted as 2, but there's little if any quality loss, I've done method 1 and 2 and the picture quality is still better than copying from analogue to analogue.

Hope it helps, for info, I've got many 8, Hi8 and one D8 cameras and loads of VHS footage, the above is how I'm capturing analogue with my Rapture.
