Capturing in Prem. CS6

I have recently upgraded to Prem CS6 with the MatroxMX02 Mini.  My previous set up was CS4 and I only used SD recorded on my Sony Z5 camera. I placed the recorded tape into my Sony HVR-M15AE deck. And captured in the Prem CS4 with no problem.
I’m now recording in HD on the camera, putting the tape into the deck as above but I can’t get the capture to work on CS6. I appreciate there are many settings in CS6 for HD capturing. The playing deck recognises the tape as HD 1080p. I set CS6 to what I hope are the correct settings (I have tried several) and the deck is recognised and will wind/rewind with no problem.   However, in the capture window at the top is the message ‘Device Offline’ and does not capture of course. Clearly I have set something incorrectly.
Finally I would mention that using the Z5 camera or a small Canon Camcorder connected to the PC, the capturing works fine.

Can anyone guide me please? Pete.

I'm FCP but...

If the software is ok with the other cameras then I'd suspect the camera

So check that the camera is set to output HD. I gather that some can be set to output SD only

Thanks Dave,
I can capture fine from either of my cameras but it is a Sony recording/playing deck that doesn't want to connect.

If you can capture fine from the Z5 into CS6 then clearly it's an issue with the M15AE deck. Since the transport controls work OK it's got to be an issue with the signal coming out of it. Go into the deck's menu and see what your Firewire output options are.

Set up CS6 and your Z5 and do a test HD capture to check everything's working OK.

Disconnect the Z5 and plug in the M15AE and change the M15AE's output settings until you're able to capture.

Let us know how you get on.

Try this,

Make sure that your unit is switched on and connected.
Open the capture function:  F5
Click: SETTINGS
Device Control should show the device DV/HDV
Click: Options and check the setting there.

With CS3 & CS6 sometimes my Cam would not connect but just by going through these motions mentioned above for some reason or other it started to capture.

Thanks, I will try that also. Sadly (like many of us) my background knowledge is very limited on these matters at times.  Pete.

Make sure the HVR15 iLink option is set to output HDV and not down convert to DV in the menu.

I don't use CS6 but in CS5 you had to set the project to be DV or HDV (I think they have DSLR options now) - with the MXO2 enabled there are also Matrox AVI/M2V options.

If those are still in CS6 then make sure you are working in HDV mode.

Both of the above could result in the symptoms you describe.

Next - if you're on Windows 7 check that the Firewire driver (IEEE1394) is set to legacy mode in device manager.

See how you get on.

Re: Capturing in Prem. CS6
Thanks All. I have got it - well it works at the moment.  The answer came in your first suggestion Gavin. "Make sure the HVR15 iLink option is set to output HDV and not down convert to DV in the menu".  I went to that, but for the moment I couldn't see how to change it, but by back tracking to another menu section I eventually solved it. Hopefully I wont have to change it back again as it's so involved for me. The instruction book for the deck is so complex.

Anyhow, my thanks as always to those that offer help & advice.
Pete.

Glad you got it sorted.
What you did to get it working was what I was telling you to try in my post #3 above, but clearly Gavin put it more clearly!!
