I am running seven pyro dirvekits each with harddrives from my lap top, generally the system is stable, especially when i am up and running, but when I first turn them all on, daisychained as they are, I often get one or two that rifuse to start or after a minute I get this error message.

I am using XP.

Thanks for your suggestions

this is often caused by one of the drives taking longer to power up and announce itself to the system

double click 'my computer' and when all the drives are listed press F5 incase one isn't ready. this should cause a polling of all drives and then the error should go away.

i have also seen this when too much data is being shifted in both directions at the same time , i.e copying a file both from and too that drive.

thanks, that makes a lot of sense,

I have found that it doesnt happen if I turn on all the drives up the daisy chain on first, give them a moment and then turn on the drive closest to the PC.

I also find it happens a lot more when I connect my sony deck to the system compared with my panasonic? Now that is something I really dont understand.

i NEVER daisy chain a camcorder into the hard drive , i always use the second port on the firewire card for the camera.

that seems to work for me.
