I'm getting a delayed write warning bubble popping up on starting up my main video editing computer. The warning references drive F which is a Samsung 1TB HD103UJ, it says something couldn't be saved.
The drive has been working flawlessly for about a year since I installed it, I haven't altered any other drives or drive configurations in the machine so am thinking it's maybe the Samsung drive on it's way. I am backing up to an external drive as quickly as possible!
The only 1TB drive my local computer shop has in stock is the exact same model.
My question is.. should I grab one or is there a known weakness with this model? If so, any suggestions for a reliable make of 1T SATA drive?

Is it installed or external? If installed, I reckon you could be right, intimations of mortality. If external, it's the sort of message you get when you turn off without doing a "safely eject" of the drive.

Yes, Its installed.
You know these huge drives are a god send for us video editors, especially when handling HD stuff, but its frightening to think how much work I have trusted to this 1TB lump of metal.
..still copying to a couple of 500GB USB portable drives, will sigh with relief when all is safe.
There is a setting in device manager for the HDD to allow for portable drive or fixed, try changing that, may be that.

Of course all hard drives are fallible, but I have goodness knows how many (18 - 20?) of this very same drive and I have had no problems with any of them. They have a good reputation.. so far.
Good luck copying your data over etc. If you do solve this problem I'd be very grateful if you'd keep us posted on the outcome.

a 1Tb USB drive is so cheap now that backing up, although time consuming, is easy to do.
Look like iit's the drive itself gone down.
I ran check disk on it without setting the option to "automatically fix system errors" or "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors".
After a short while during "Phase 1" a message appears "Windows was unable to complete the disk check".
I have now bought another one, same Samsung model and fitted it.
After running a quick format the disk check completes phase 1,2 & 3 with no problems at lightening speed so I am now busy transferring my saved work back onto it from the my external USB drives.
In the meantime I placed the suspect drive in a USB external case which takes sata drives and ran the disk check on it again. It still could not complete the test. Does this vindicate me dumping it or shall I try a reformat?
Oh, except I now found it's only 6 months old, maybe I should just return it, I have lost trust in it now.
I would return it - gotta be covered by warranty, if nothing else... and I wouldn't trust it now either
It's dead. If you can get a refund, you should do so. And don't even think of using it for anything other than as a doorstop.

most drives these days have a 3 year warranty.
