RayL mentioned the slowness of loading threads, opening of long threads is most certainly an issue, especially threads with hundreds of posts including pictures as per the Tennis, Elbow....game, hence my request to limit to 100 posts per game, it used to be a 1,000 in the old days.

The old forum used to split long threads into separate pages, is this  possible with drupal?   The old yabb forums had page selection, with a useful user option to show the newest post first, and show all the posts on one page instead of pages, the best of both worlds if you wanted to save a thread.

Re: Forum Speed
Pagination is possible, but there is a bug in Drupal which prevents forums from correcly paginating (specifically "todays posts" and the sidebar links would brerak for anythiong not on page1) tenis elbow foot is a silly thread, with no need to have even 100 posts (all with external pictures in makes pages load slowly under any forum software).

I'd suggest dumping to a new thread every 75 posts of that game, then it should be a lot faster.

Re: Forum Speed
Hi Tom
Thanks for the background info re: the paginating bug, my suggestion of 100 posts was a finger in the air statement and much better than the 230 posts of the last game.

I agree that TEF is a silly game and long may if continue laugh, Chirpy, one of the absent Mod's (who's now broadcasting on the BigL) started this very sucessful game years ago and a few other chatter threads which gave a humorous side to this technical forum.

If the TEF thread slows down after 75 posts it's no problem to start another game, if 75 posts is a known technical issue can a virtual message popup for members to start a new thread on all threads be implemented, just a thought and not 100% serious, although I have already been asked the question angel

btw I can load most threads here on my android phone, I ignore the long picture threads because of my mobile data usage (I know I could switch off the pictures loading).

Thanks for your input Tom, very much appreciated.

Re: Forum Speed
:) its always good to have some sillyness.

I'm not sure there is a (simple) way to do any kind of automated message. We might well get away with 100+ posts, its kind of dependent on how good peoples broadband is apart from anything else.

Martin has done some database optimisation stuff recently too which i think should help.

Re: Forum Speed
I still find the forum very slow to load. Here's a couple of tracert and ping which are pretty typical. The last lap is consistently slow and gives timeouts.
