Re: Linx Tablet with Windows 8.1

I've ordered a Linx 10  at a knock down price and I'll give it a try out, I'll probably install 'Classic Shell' to make the Windows 8.1 experience more normal, although I may not need it with a touch screen.

At least I'll get all the functionality of Windoze.

I haven't gone for the Origami keyboard optional extra as it doesn't seem to support the tablet on one's lap wink

Re: Linx Tablet with Windows 8.1

I've played around with my Lynx 10 for the last couple of days and....it works very well

Classic shell has helped the normal windows experience
The keyboard is precise although takes up half the screen, well it is a tablet smiley
After two Android experiments  I'm glad to say iplayer Live TV and radio works as it should.
It isn't a laptop but does all I want for a portable device and the volume is adequate
Less than 10" screen size probably wouldn't work for me
Network drives work fine for video playback

My 2 TB passport  drive worked as well but I suspect the power is on the low side as I heard some clicking now and again
My 64GB USB drive was fine although limited  by the 4GB limit of FAT 32, can I format to NTFS?

Would it edit video, probably lol  winkI need a mouse and connect to the TV with HDMI

I'll update more in a day or two

Hi Branny

I've successfully connected my mouse and TV via HDMI, I also converted a USB memory stick to NTFS (for now).

My external DVD drive powered through the USB wasn't a success, I suggest you need powered external drives for the Linx 10

I did a very quick edit with some mp4 footage and rendered to Mpg2 using Sony Movie Studio 12 without a hitch.

I'm not suggesting that you can carry out a major job with the Linx 10", I don't know of any other device at this cost and size which would be able to attempt it.

It's a real Windows operating system with 2GB Ram and ticks all my boxes, the volume is adequate and can easily be connected to a blue tooth speaker or alternatively by a audio cable.
I was caught out by only having my Windows online password for logging in and managing to lock myself out of the tablet when out and about blush
It was easy enough to reset the password on my laptop when I got home and I'm now I am using a pin number as my log in.

All in All I'm pleased with my new toy, it isn't a replacement for a computer but comes very close.
I'm not  confident the Linx 10 or similar would last long with constant hard work, I didn't buy it for that purpose so I hope it lasts for a while yes

Out of the 32GB SSD I have 14.3GB free of the 24GB available (Windows takes the rest), I haven't installed Office 365 yet.
I also added an old 16GB old mini SD card (64GB supported) and have 1TB available on One Drive (Free for one year as part of Office 365 if I install it?).

Got on as xmas present.  Very pleased with it.  Took it on holiday to watch movies and play music.  Would have preferred mat screen though
as with glossy screen, you can see your reflection on screen in bright conditions.

Hi Mike

Thanks for your feedback, I haven't even taken my screen protector off yet nor had any Sun to cause me concern.....yet wink

I've also upgraded to a Windows phone (Nokia), that isn't real windows though lol

Their are limitations with both devices but the combination works for me, especially with a home network.

Cheers

Just for the hell of it, we kicked off a 1080p video render using Sony Vegas Pro 10, and experienced very little slowdown while continuing to use the Linx 10 to browse the web and write this review in Google Drive.

The Linx name was always on the cutting edge, Good wishes to Ian , where ever you are (Older members will know who I mean cheeky)

Is this Linx from the same person? And yes someone who deserved to succeed.  Very helpful guy.

Re: Linx Tablet with Windows 8.1

Just bought a Bose Soundlink Mini to use with Linx,
as the sound is not ideal from this tablet with the speakers being at rear.
The Bose is excellent to play to from the Linx

Hi Mike

You must have paid more for the Bose than the Linx cost!

I bought this little beauty last year, it's great for my portable needs by cable or bluetooth with the Linx, Laptop or mobile phone.

The FM Radio works well and the USB connection is also very useful, a good punchy sound imho.
I've even used it as a speaker with my projector for presentations in small halls yes It was flat out but clear as a bell lol

Looks ok John, but as usual , you get what you pay for.

Can't beat the Bose for sound quality.

Re: Linx Tablet with Windows 8.1

I've found the sound lacking on all the tablet's I've tried, I have a Nokia Windows phone and that's superior for volume and quantity even though it's much smaller.

Not as good as a iphone/ipad though lol

Re: Linx Tablet with Windows 8.1

I've just found  this useful Linx forum http://www.linxtablet.co.uk/index.php
My tablet was dead last night and still dead after charging all night.
The Emergency Reboot was the resolution.
Hold power button in for 10 seconds (even though the screen is black).
Wait 15 seconds
Power on and normal service was resumed smiley

I hope this helps anyone in a similar situation
