I hope this is the right forum for this subject as it is related to editing and printing labels to DVD's. I use two PC's for editing, one for HD and one for SD simply to save altering settings. I want to use both PC's to print labels direct onto the finished DVD or Blu-ray Disc. I am using an Epson R300 printer and Epson's print CD programme. Sharing on a network doesn't work since I tried to put a laptop on the sharing programme. It did work up to then. Now the laptop shares the printer with No.1 PC but no longer with PC 2.
I was thinking the solution might be to install the Epson installation programme on both PC's and connect them both to the printer via a switchable USB splitter. Is this a feasible
proposition or am I wishful thinking. Any help is appreciated but don't use computer speak, it's way above my old head. Thanks

Hi Roy,
I too use a R300 printer to print discs from 2 seperate PCs.
I have the Epson print cd software and printer driver installed on both and simply plug the printer into a USB port on whichever machine I'm printing from, it works fine.

I also have an R220 printer which I've installed on both machines, I can have this and the R300 plugged into seperate USB ports on the same machine and print 2 discs at once.
Then from the print command in the Print CD programme I just select the printer I wish to use from the drop down menu in the print window.
Hope that helps.

PJ.

Hi North Image. Thanks for your quick reply. I'm glad that you have proved my theory works in practise, although my friend thought it might not. My only problem now is that I need ten metres of cable and USB cable apparently only works over 5 metres, but you can buy a repeater 5 metre extension cable which apparently amplifies the siignal so that you operate with ten metres of cable but the price is terrible at PC world it's going to cost £40 plus £29 for a switchover unit. I've seen it a lot cheaper on line but I wonder if the quality is ok. Anybody had any experience of cheaper USB cable? Thanks Roy

I`m no network expert but I would try to sort out that aspect before spending loads of dosh on a USB connection.

You don`t say what operating system you`re using, that might help some of the experts here.

I have a Canon i4700 connected to a particular machine but as long as that machine is on I can print to the Canon from other machines. I would ensure that the driver is installed on the suspect machine, make sure both machines can "see" each other via the network. If you`re on XP you should be able to connect to the printer via add printer/ search /not on current machine etc.

Give it a go & let us know.

thanks Mooblie for info about USB repeater Extension lead. To go with this I have found a switchable USB splitter on line for £4.99. All in all the total cost for my needs would be £21. A big difference from PC world. BTW I don't buy anything from that shop, I go to see what is available on the market.
