Hi,

Obviously I've got loads of questions being new to video editing... I'll play around with the software to work most of them out. But is there any important advice you can give me as far as Premere / Raptor setup and software usage goes that's not going to appear too obvious. The sort of thing where 6 months down the line you say "If only I knew that 6 months ago, I could have saved so much time!".

Do you know how to get the wheel button working on the wheel mouse, my cordless logitech works fine in windows explorer but doesn't seam to function with the raptor software as frame advance etc.

Is the best practice to select clips using Raptor navi, load up using Raptor Video then pull into Premere or do you go about this just using Premere?

And yes, I did follow the raptor manual to set premere up as PAL, 25fps etc.

Thanks in advance,

Jez

Hi again Jez.....we are obvioulsy tracking very closely, I got my raptor last weekend and going thru the same learning curve.

Couple of things I have discovered :

1) although there are many settings to sort out and they are all shown in the manual, there is in fact a default setting for Raptor Pal, which does it all automatically.
When you open premiere, you first get the raptor settings screen, click on the load button and select the default of Raptor Pal.
This will ensure that all your settings are correct ( and will load on next use as well )

2) my logitech wheel mouse (hard wired )worked with no additional settings...so can,t understand why yours may not.

3) I have played with Raptor navi, Rap video and capturing from premiere...I think for now I like RapNavi and RapVideo as they are very easy and intuitive...navi is very good for scanning, cataloging and creating play list etc....once done these easily import into Rap video for capture. So I am going to persevere with this method for now.

Enjoy your raptor...first impressions are its a great card, with good software and compatibility with prem....I love it !

Hi Phil!

yes, I'll have to workout the wheel mouse thing... I assume to make it work I need to press the wheel button (button 2 in setup) during DV raptor Navi/Video playback to put it into frame advance mode then use the wheel to go back/forward (which doesn't happen!). Have you installed your wheel mouse software and change the default settings?

Import - How do I import from the raptor software into Premere????????????? Can it pick up the raptor in/out playlist file???

MMM, got some more questions now... in the video overlay window some of the edges (left etc) are sometimes a bit blue etc, is this normal?. Maybe it's due to me copying from a VHS to Sony walkman first. I was wondering if I should just leave these imperfections there as maybe it wont appear on the final VHS version...?

I can't wait to play with the premere features, but my overlay has started to screw up displaying the video in to wrong section of the screen or not at all - ahhhh! Maybe my TNT2 video card driver isn't so hot?

Cheers,

Jez.

Hm....sounds like some probs to sort :

1) I did not have to do anything with my logitech wheel mouse...it worked straight off.
You dont have to press the wheel down, just have the cursor somewhere in the controls window in Rapnavi or Rapvideo, scroll the wheel up and down and it should advance the camera. Personally I am not over impressed with it and find the shuttle bar much easier to use.

2) I havn,t got to trying to import play lists or multiple files into premiere yet...my simple way is to bring the avis in individually, file > open > double click the avi file on a hard disk and its in the preview window, ready to drag onto the timeline.

3) the overlay feature is said NOT to reflect the recorded image, so you may get away with the dodgy edges...only way to be sure is capture a clip and play it out to see if the problem is there.

4) don,t talk to me about graphics adapter cards, I have also found out that my Viewtop 4mb can't handle overlay ( unless I drop screen to 800x600)....luckily a friend had a unused ATI All In Wonder with 8mb onboard...have installed this and all is fine now. However, a good card should only cost >£50 nowadays...if you buy be sure to check the canopus site for compatible cards ( it was updated last week and a few cards were removed ).

Finally have a personal frustration in that I just splashed out (again) on a GVD300 ( lovely machine ) unfortunately the DV connector is dead, nothing in or out...so more trips back to sony...yuk !!!

Have fun Phil
