I am in the process of converting my analogue VHS home video tapes into DV. The footage stored on my old analogue VHS-C tapes converted fine by using the original video camera as the player. When I try to convert the footage stored on 'standard' tapes they come over with high colour saturation and appear bleached on certain scenes. However, when played to a TV (in their analogue form) they look fine.
I am using my Canon MV550i as the converter via the firewire into a good spec. PC. I have tried both SVHS and standard outputs from the Panasonic VCR. It seems as if the signal is being amplified on the output from the VCR.
Have you tried recording it on the 550i instead of 'passing thru' the analogue signal?
Thanks - No, not yet but will try this weekend. I got a bit carried away as the analogue camcorder path worked fine as the player source for the VHS-C tapes. I suspect the VCR amplifies the output and the signal needs to be 'flattened out'.
Do the different outputs from a VCR (Panasonic SV120) give different levels ?
e.g. SVHS, phono, scart ?
Tried recording direct to a tape in the Canon but the result is the same. The RF signal to the TV looks fine however. Does the TV somehow attenuate the signal ?
