Hi
Does anyone know whether the Australians use PAL, NTSC or another video format???
Much abliged!
PAL
There's a pretty comprehensive list of which countries use which format here - http://www.videouniversity.com/standard.htm
Any VHS tape made in a country that has 625/50 TV (assuming no smart-arse tricks) will play in any other. Same for 525 countries. The signals come off the tape and are coded to the specific local versions of PAL/NTSC/SECAM by the player, the recorded signals are not specific to the coding system, only the the scanning (lines and fields).
In Australia, it's not so much 'PAL' as 'MATE' ;)
Actually, I got called "mate" more than anything else when I was there last year
Don`t think our Ozzie cousins are very "Matey" given the recent events!
Bad losers comes to mind.
I`m just looking forward when one of them describes us as "Whinging Poms"
They "Whinged" more than I`ve ever heard before!

p.s. Give us back our ball!
Hi Barry
Speaking of 'whinging Poms' what about your rugby coach - is it Clive Woodworm - moaning on about some presentation by a well respected Aussie rugby gentleman. God, the man's rattles were fairly getting thrown about the nursery. Best rugby team? Yes. Best whingers - you bet, mate.
On a more serious note - have a magic Christmas and a extremely happy New Year to all my friends 'doon sooth'.
Mike G.
Thanks for the seasonal greetings!
Where shall we start? How about the Ozzie media`s suggestion about camping outside the hotel to keep our lads awake, or the one about voting for Henman & not Johnny for Sportsman of the year! Then there was the suggestion the someone had a RX in his kit to have coaching on the field! But to cap it all, it looked as if the guy presenting the medals had sucked on a lemon minutes before he gave out the medals.
Problem as I see it, the Ozzie`s are so used to being top dog they can`t handle it when the underdog bites their ass and were bad losers to boot. They like to give it out but can`t take it when they lose. It was a good game played by all, spoilt by bad grace!

Sorry to spoil your moment there boys, but we didn't even think we would make the grand final. We thought it be New Zealand and England in the end. We were lucky to gt where we did. I wouldn't say the Poms were "underdogs".
Merry Christmas everyone!
This is getting silly. Back to Neil's original question!
All of Australia uses the PAL format with one exception.
Certain specific PAL encoded Sports TV replays, tapes or DVDs are unlikely to play at all on a standard Australian persons television.
Televisions owned by ex-patriots will encounter no such problems.
Swing low................

To be fair, all the Os players took their loss with good grace - according to Mr Johnson anyway! Most of the stupid comments came from either 'ex' players or their media.
I think the 2 that gave me the biggest chuckles were "the team is as predictable as the English weather" ?? Has that guy ever actually been to England? And "The English are arrogant, their army used to go to war in red coats". Nothing like hanging out your ignorance for the whole world to see. You've got to say though, if their media are in any way representative, the Aussies are truly world class whingers.
Oh, and Clive was exactly right, you shouldn't be given an award by your biggest critic/detractor - it's insulting. Forget all that crap about Campo (Hmmmm strange nickname) eating his words. He's over here for the money - nothing else.
