...on a Mac with iMovie 2 and Quicktime?

My initial attempts only half worked: i.e.:

-export from an iMovie/NTSC project to QT,
-export from QT to DV/PAL stream, then
-import into a iMovie/PAL project,

but the results were bad: with gross striping artefacts on the moving parts of the picture, and the sound running about 20% fast, and losing visible lipsync after about 5 seconds.

Methinks I might be overcomplicating this - is there a export/import process, without spending money on hardware, software or conversion services?

(I have BOTH an NTSC and PAL Sony Digital-8 cameras, but I guess that doesn't help?)

If you do a search on conversion you should come up with a few posts.Their is some software by Canapus that does conversion but i don't know if its avaiable for a Mac.

Failing this i and others on the board offer a conversion service.

mooblie have you tried exporting the NTSC project directly from iMovie to a DV-PAL codec? Go export movie > to quicktime > select expert and set the codec to DV-PAL.

This thread, and the "Quicktime 4Pro and DV and iMovie" and "Sorry to resurrect a dead topic but..." threads are all converging!

I need to upgrade to QT5 to eliminate my use of QT 4.1.2 as possible reason for my problems - which still persist. I shall report back.

Thanks for all the help and advice so far.

Upgraded to QT 5 from QT 4.1.2 - no significant improvement - still getting visual horizontal "jaggies" on fast moving edges in the resultant PAL picture.

Any suggestions - gratefully received.

Well, I upgraded to QT5 (on my home-office Windows PC) and it cured the QT-related error message I had been getting every time Premiere 6 was closed down - and, I had tried almost everything to affect a cure (uninstalling Premiere and QT, included), not because it cause any problem, but simply because it irritated me.

By the way, harking back to a question from me hereabouts a few days back:

Does anyone know why it should be that the versions of QT5 currently available for download are still described as being "US English" only but seem to work perfectly well on Macs and Windows machines over here in the UK, when you'd expect these machines to require international English versions?

I always used to hold back from installing any North American English (NAE) Apple Software updates, waiting for the International English (IE) versions to be released. This was frustrating because there was usually a delay and often no IE version ever appeared.

However, I recently installed OS9.1 (IE version) and received notification later while online (via the Software Update control panel) to download various updates. I didn't download immediately but noted the recommended updates and checked the Apple asu site later. I was puzzled to note that many of the recommended updates were NAE versions. However, the 'OS Required' stipulation was either "English Mac OS 9.x" (e.g. AppleScript 1.6) or just "Mac OS 9.x" (e.g. Startup Disk 9.2.1). So no mention that North American Mac OS 9.x being required. This gave me the confidence to download and install the updates and they all seem to work without a hitch.

So I assume that while the LANGUAGE of these updates is NAE, many will work fine with IE systems. Maybe it just means having to accept NAE spelling (such as 'Favorites' in QuickTime Player, rather than 'Favourites'). Not much of a hardship.

But I agree, it is confusing initially.

Cheers
