Just how good is this card ?
I am intersting in upgrading from my DV500 but wonder what real world use anybody has.
I'm particularly interested in drastically reducing rendering time as my projects tend to incluse lots of layers, titles and effects and it just takes too long to render things back through the DV hole.

There are folks on this board far more qualified than myself to give you first-hand reports on Storm, but what I do know is that its performance improves greatly the more system power you put behind it (faster processor, dual processor, lots of RAM...).

I think you'll get a far more useful reply if you tell us what kind of system you plan to install it on.

Also, use the 'search' function of this messageboard (the link's at the top right). There's been a lot said already. Not much of it has been negative if I remember rightly.

Cheers,

Pete

even with the storm your still gonna have to render something.
rendering times are about the same as the Raptor funny enough if you want to hear from real users and a lot of them go to the DV STORM forum at canopus http://www.canopuscorp.com

The realtime power of the Storm system will blow away your DV500 because it can handle moving titles and transitions in realtime through DV as well as anologue.

The Storm works with scaleable technology. This means that the more powerful your system is, the more you can do in realtime. Most new systems you can buy run with dual PIII processors and 512Mb RAM. How much yours would do in realtime I do not know but it is easily going to wipe the floor with your DV500 purely because it will have a lot less to render when sending back to DV. It is also worth noting that at £1500 nothing comes even remotely close to its realtime capabilities.

Hope this helps

Have a look at my postings about the Storm (there have been plenty)!

Then once you're convinced buy it at www.boffindirect.com for £1149.00 inc VAT!

It's a fantastic piece of kit.
