Digital shoe boxes

I have just purchased my first digital camera and already have more than 50 images, and I am uncertain how best to catalogue them for simple retrieval. My current system of shoe boxes - however inelegant - works fine with prints - does anyone know of a suitable digital equivalent? I have a CD-RW so storage is no problem, but at my current snapping rate of at least 50 a week I would appreciate any suggestions.

I use Ulead Photo Explorer to browse the images and store the images in folders with relevant titles.

I've used the excellent (and fast) ACDSee viewer for years and I know that they have some support products, check out their website.

Don't take my word for it -

ACDSee gets my vote! Fastest viewer around and also the best program for printing, in my opinion.

Their home page is at : http://www.acdsystems.com/index.htm

Thanks Folks,

I already have ACDSee and agree it's a great piece of software, but with all this computer power at our finger tips I was thinking along the lines of some sort of database. I seem to remember reading about such a prog some time ago but I have forgotten where. However I have a free week-end this week (grandchildren away on holiday) so will do some serious 'net searching.

This is exactly the question I would like to ask i.e. a database style shoe box. I am a teacher and I would like to be able to call up pics on topics e.g. rivers and then may be an over lapping topic such as France - so what programme is good for arranging slideshows?

Last weekend was a waste of time. No sooner had I settled down at the computer than I was "invited" to partake in some retail therapy. However I did some surfing this week, but I was very disappointed with the results. Some progs would not run, while others were pathetically slow. After about a dozen or so downloads I decided to give up and as a "temporary" measure to format a couple of CD-RW's, each with a number of intuitively named folders.

For anyone interested there is a good selection of progs at http://www.davecentral.com/4454.html

With my Epson Scanner was some software "Presto Page Manager" which is probably what you need.

A bit off the subject matter, but came across this interesting prog., it checks for duplicate images - free and really quite fast
