Hello group

I have been using a Rainbow Runner with great results for a couple of years now, i do not intend to go digital on the camera side for a while as my Hi8 camcorder is still superb and i get excellant reuslts.

My queries are, is the Fast AV master 2000 the best card for under 500 pounds, how does it compare to the pinnacle cards, i have no experience of the pinnacle range although i am slightly put off becasue of all of the teething problems that people have seemed to have had with them in the past.

I have a P3 500 processor 256MB ram and 37 gigs of UDMA 66 storage, so the system is well capable of DV at full pal, i just dont want or can afford to got the full digital route just yet so i would like the best analogue card for under 500 quid, (the rex would be nice!) :-(

I will want to stay with media studio 5.2 if possible, does the Fast Av Master work ok with media studio?, i would use premier but well you know i know what i like and i like what i know!

I would appreciate anyones comments who uses the card and especially i would like to know how the card performs when it is being controlled in the editing program, ie smoothness, the Rainbow Runner falls down here as it is very slow and clunky when used in MediaStudio, things like when you insert a video file but want to preview it first, it takes ages for the Rainbow Runner to wake up and run the clip.

Any comments will be gladly recieved.

Makny Thanks in advance

Just do a search on this site, hit the search link and type in Av Master as key words. You will find your questions answered many times over. My opinion? Taking in ALL considerations, price/performance/ease of setup/ease of use, it has to be the best bet for analogue, still, that's only MY opinion,
pretty sure it's still shipped with Ms Pro but could be wrong.
Do your search, it's your choice, your money.

Ray Liffen is the man for you, he really does know his stuff, and especially with the Av Master, like I said, search the site, he's probably answered your questions already, or find his profile and email direct, I'll take a chance and say I don't think he'll mind for a moment.

After those kind words from Ken, what can I say? (The cheques in the post?)

As for as the AV Master 2000 is concerned, the main problem seems to have been the wrong sort of advertising. On a point-for-point comparison with the Pinnacle DC30+ (installation, reliability, capture software, playback software, etc) I rate the AV Master higher (and I bought a second AV Master because of this). However, Pinnacle seem to have been more successful in advertising their products. (During yesterdays edit session the client pointed to a full page ad page of Pinnacle products in CV and said "which one should I buy?". Then he said "What are YOU using?")

Media Studio Pro 5.2 is the software supplied with the AV Master 2000. It is a good program, though (as I have mentioned elsewhere) it is lacking three vital tools and has a few design funnies. Prem 5 has many, many problems and both the above are slower to render than Prem 4.2. Prem 4.2 also has the smoothest scrubbing and is the most stable.
