Hi.
not used these forum things before, but perhaps this is where all the knowledge that Im missing is!
Used Final Cut - HD (recent upgrade from Final Cut - the regular type) on iMac G5, and a couple problems have arisen.
1) I can no longer export to MPEG2 via quicktime conversion, as the option is now for iPod, Im sure this is a setting issue but i've looked everywhere, and can't seem to turn it off...I can still use Compressor, but it is finiky (technical term) and often tells me i have already exported said file, when i havn't, etc. I've made sure timeline is selected etc, but it still goes loopy and, frankly, i just want my ol trusty QuickTime option back!! what up?
2) Capturing is like pulling teeth. keeps telling me i've dropped frames etc. works sometimes if I fastforward tape and computer has to think in rewinding it (accidental discovery) but not always...checked its not an NTSC setting, and works on roommates G4 powerbook...what up with that?
please help!
many thanks
newbie
1) I believe export via QT to MPEG2 was dropped when Compressor 2 was announced. Compressor is much better, but slower, than QT export - I recommend you persevere with Compressor 2.
2) Are you capturing to a separate HD from your system drive? And do you have you a daisy chain of FireWire devices?
Hi, and thanks for rapid responses!
1) Ok, will persever with the change to compressor - sigh, won't anything ever stay the same!? thanks for the advice, thou!
2) I am capturing onto a separate drive, but never had much issue before..though it is a new hardrive and this one has USB2 (though, not the 2 pronged USB cables that come from one single chord, this is one single USB head....(id be much happier with a firewire connection though!) ... I don't have any other other HD's attached though...is it a USB issue? should I just capture onto the Imac's HD and then just drag file over to separate HD and edit from there? or is there a specail setting to make it a bit more stable!?
cheers again, oh wise people, you with the knowledge that I've been missin.
anthony
That's your problem - a USB capture drive. You REALLY need a separate external FireWire drive.
Capturing to the internal drive, or any USB drive, won't hack it. Sorry. :(
och, craaap.
thanks anyways...I'll see if I can upgrade this darn thing. cheers for the help
