In part two of this documentary series I explain the origins of Santeria and show what happens as the conflict in Wilmington escalates.

Wow! Gripping stuff Mike, I'm proud of you. Skillfully put together, especially since it's so close to your heart.
Hard to say why individuals like this believe they're the persecuted ones when it's obvious they provoke local communities into commenting and bringing in defense to advise them to act in a local 'civilised' way. When is Spain etc.
I guess it's a tribal instinct that brings on the hysteria when confronted by rational conversation to try to resolve it too.
I wish you and the local authorities good luck :)

Do not follow, I may not lead. Do not lead . . . I may not follow.

Absolutely first class work Mike. Wished I'd seen the first part too! I'm sure that the states has the equivalent of the RSPCA here? If so, do they have a view on the animal sacrifices? (Being cruel).

Thanks for the comments everyone. I feel like I'm walking a tightrope making this BECAUSE I am so close to it. But that is something that makes it exciting to me. My biggest fear is that I cross the line and become boring and self-indulgent. That's very easy to do with something like this.

Here's the first part Arthur,

We have the ASPCA and PETA over here. As long as the killing is done in a human way and the meat is eaten then the practitioners of this religion are subject only to the same laws that any slaughterhouse would be.

It has always been my contention that Mr. Melendez was in violation of ZONING codes only. I support his right to worship any way he chooses, but in the proper place.

First part just as good as the second Mike. Understand what you're saying re humane killing, but surely there are laws governing where that can be done? You can't have a slaughterhouse in the middle of a residential estate surely? And how do they know it's done humanely? Have they been allowed to observe? Must be frustrating when you're not getting the backing that you should be from the authorities.

You are absolutely right Arthur, but when it comes to religion it seems it's "hands off" these days. That is why I named the series as I did.

Also interesting along the lines that it started as a primitive, relatively small, African form of worship. Transported across the seas to the Americas, given time and interference, it's grown hugely and spread into Hispanic culture too.

Very interesting piece, you can already start to pick out the true believers from the ones who do it just for the kill. I think if the neighbour didn't do Santeria he would be into dog/cock fighting or similar.

Hey Mike, I really like your style. Pace, presentation, narration and use of graphics all fit together well.

Thank you. That is a very big compliment to me. I work very hard on those aspects of my productions.
