Hoj,
I am going to put together my own computer (again), this time for editing HDV, using Canopus Edius NX for HDV. Canopus' home page has a hardware recommendation page, which was compiled befor dual core pentiums were available, and it is as as old as from March 05. I do not want to spend money on double XEON processors. Is there anybody out there who can give me any hints on what motherboard is safe to use, and suggestion of grapic card as well (must be PCI express) (I have two monitors).

Canopus are better at listing uncompatible boards, and there are a few around including my Asus P4P800, which is perfect with DVstorm.

Thanks in advance

only people that could answer that are those that got a new machine with same spec as you want.
remember that it takes many system integrators a long time to find stable systems , so may not be willing to give away info like that.

dvc.uk.com make systems up , and probably one of few who would have made a system like you want.

only other way is to ask on canopus support forums.

Yes, I was going to suggest DVC as well. As far as I can tell, they were the first in the UK to announce dual core machines for video work.

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.
Camera settings documents are held by Daniel Browning and at the EBU
My book, 'Circles of Confusion' is available here.
Also EBU Tech.3335 tells how to test cameras, and R.118 tells how to use the results.

There unfortunately aren't any dual core boards that support the NX in full HDV mode, you need a specific xeon xhipset with 64-bit PCI-X slots running at 133Mhz for that. But you can successfully use it in software only mode on a dual core machine, as long as you don't need to monitor the output at full-resolution. It performs nearly as well in preview only mode.

Not true, there is one and we use it in our systems. We have sold about 10 so far based on this config with excellent results.

I'm not going to shout about which one it is because it would be silly as alot of research went into looking, but I will answer genuine private messages.

I'm ok now

Thank you all. I am in Sweden, and we have some special benefits from the government (roughly 50% support), to increase our puble knowledge on computers. This goal is achieved, they think, so the subsidising will stop by the end of the year. I will source the goods in Sweden (a leasing scheme is mandatory). In the UK I might have considered a built and tested machine, and DVC is the best in the business says my English friend (a frequent visitor here).

Anyway, I think I have solved the problem. Doing it myself excites me almost as much as making rock videos. Wish me luck.
