I have suggested an Epson but said I would ask for your opinions.

Hi
You get what you pay for... ;)
For web page scanning then a flat-bed A4 scanner with an attachment will give useable results - maybe even for small print work with help from Photoshop.

For 'good' results a Nikon Coolscan nikoncoolscan.com will give very much better scans, and the ICE software is excellent for removing physical handling blemishes or dust specks.

I use an Epson Perfection 1650 photo which has similar features as 2580 described by Gary. It is quick enough for most jobs (but I expect that it has been superceded by now). see link - http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h265.htm Tony C.

I use a HP S20, I takes in neg strips and reversal slides, and will scan a 7x5 print. Resolution is splendid.

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.
Camera settings documents are held by Daniel Browning and at the EBU
My book, 'Circles of Confusion' is available here.
Also EBU Tech.3335 tells how to test cameras, and R.118 tells how to use the results.

We have a Nikon Coolscan 4000 neg scanner - the quality is superb but the files are huge. You need loads of RAM, plenty of time and storage to handle them.

My mate has an old Epson 1240 (I think) which gives perfectly acceptable results - nice clean scans - he did a batch of around 2000 slides for me recently with no problems.

I had a Canon flatbed that did negs - it was dire - I swapped it and the replacement was just as bad.

Looking down this thread Epson seems a safe bet.

I sent an e-mail to Boogaloo and they replied saying that the scanner is, 'model number BearPaw 2448 TA Plus, manufactured by Mustek'.

Is it any good. Is anyone out there using one. ????

Cheers.

Mustek are the 'cheaper' scanners.
problem can be getting replacement power supplies due to weird voltage requirements.

Maybe another one for Gary

I have had a epson perfection 2580 photo scanner for a while, main use slides and general scanner. Went to use the negative option as I found a whole load of negs recently. It says negative strip incorrectly located and does not auto feed the film strip which I believe it should do. Any thouhts on set?

TIA
Chris
