I am making a small feature for my friends to see (at a private function), and wanted to include a trailer from one of my DVD's the only problem is I am working in PAL and the DVD is NTSC.
IS there anyway I can still use the footage without it going pear shaped??? ie wrong speed playback, colour problems???)
I was going to use DVD Rip to take off the trailer then tmpg for the encosion - this is how I done last years feature for them anyway.
anyhelp on this topic would be appreciated!
the fastest way is to output it from a hardware dvd decoder card that transcodes from ntsc to pal.
a creative labs dxr3 or sigma designs hollywood + or the new xcard from sigma designs.
failing that a tv output card.
or
tell us the trailer you need and someone else may have it in pal format !!!!
tmpeg will do it for you if encode using PAL settings.
I am running a audigy ex and adobe premiere, no hardware as such ( geforce4mx , 3 year old tv tuner card)
Okay, the tmpg option sounds good. Will i get any defects by incoding a ntsc in pal or will it sort this problem out for its self?
Thanks for your posts
Just incase:
the trailers i needed were
oceans 11 (new one)
drunken master 2
taxi driver
in PAL and at dvd quality ( or 720 x 576)
Many thanks

I have the same question but the other way around. I have PAL video which I would like my US relatives to be able to watch on their NTSC equipment. Using MPGEnc, and encoding using NTSC settings, will a DVD using these mpg's and authored with DVD Workshop (Ulead) be viewable on a US DVDplayer (set top box)?

I meant TMPGEnc!

It depends on the player they're using in the States. My brother in Canada (also NTSC) has no trouble playing my PAL DVDs that I send him, but he had to go get a cheepie Chinese DVD player to do it.

The GTH Electronics ACE Convertor sounds like the solution you're looking for. It converts from one format to another brilliantly.
I write purely as a satisfied customer, with no connection whatever to the company.
By the way, Marlon, you'll never convert NTSC video to PAL with 768 x 576 resolution, as NTSC only has 640 x 480 lines in the original. But the ACE, in my opinion, does a fine job.

Sorry, Marlon, I just read your post again. I misunderstood. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you about NTSC resolution!
Colin.
