When I using Photoshop I use ‘extract’ to take (say) a box from an unsuitable background then I paste this object onto another background. Everything around the object now being ‘transparent’ and I see the object on the background.

However if I select the object using (say) the lasso tool, remove the background then cut and paste the object onto a new background my object has a white background and not a transparent background.

Can anyone explain in simple terms how I can select an object in Photoshop using the various methods available, remove the unwanted background and leave the background transparent as I do when using the ‘extract’ command.

Hi
Always create a New image with the Background Contents set to Transparent when you first paste your lassoed object to begin work on it.

Thanks for that tip. I will follow up (if I can understand 100%) Then I will see if I can do what I want. So kind of you to reply and put me on the right track. Pete
