I have installed a Pioneer DV-R 104 DVD-RW in my computer ( AMD T-Bird, 1 1/2 GB PC 133 SDRAM. 120 GB IBM 7200 H.D., NVIDIA GeForce 2 MM/MX 400 PCI Video Card and am running Win 2000 pro SP 3)
Firmware version is 1.33 for Pioneer DV-R 104

My question pertains to an error message I receive when I place Memorex DVD-RW vers.1.1 media in the Pioneer I receive a message stating :
" Drive Not Ready. Please Insert A Rewritable Disk " .
I am using Nero Burning Rom vers 5.5.9.9 as my software... I can neither run an initail full erasure of the medi, nor can I record upon it..
Is this a media problem or a firmware problem ? What might I do to resolve the issue. Memorex is the only media available locally and I hesitate to order from an online source when the problem might be firmware version orientated...
I appreciate any help and suggestions. I have read through various threads and my initial assumption is it is due to the firmware...However being absolutely green with DVD burning I understand assumptions on my part are dangerous... Thanks...

Not:, I receive similar messages ( Insert DVD-R Media )when attempting to write on Memorex DVD-R and Digital Media DVD-R media..

As a first trym download and install the latest Nero and see if that helps. Nero update their progrm more than anyone else I kno but at least they post when the version is 'valid' to with the download.

I appreciate the advice Cliff. I updated Nero to the latest vers. and the results remain the same. I tried installing a borrowed copy of NTI-CD-Maker Patinum 6.0 and get the same result. This leaves me to believe it is due to Firmware 1.33 from Pioneer... Trying to get tech support from Pioneer in the U.S. is a pathetic joke.. I am considering using the downgrade firmware solution I have seen referred to in the discussions ...
The Pioneer DVR 104 is too small to work as a boat anchor, however the Firmware 1.33 renders it suitable as such in every way but size...

Spent another hour on the phone yesterday afternoon with Pioneer' " Tech Support ", the man was clearly reading from a script in front of him and was about as useful as tits on a boar hog... After going through his list and trying everything he reccomended I am now looking at a DVD-RW which will now freeze up when even a CD is put in it... This is worse than before when at least it was usable as a CD Burner...
I would really like to salvage this machine if possible, could somebody please provide additional help..
Thanks..........
