problems burning DVD to disc

I have created an .m2v video stream with separate audio via my RTx.100 and authored a disc using DVDit LE. However, when i try to write to a DVD-RW disc on my Pioneer A04 I get an error code (DVDErr, 264193).

So, I created the image and tried to burn the same using Nero and again get an error, (communication error).

I have in vain tried the following: 1)updating the A04 firmware to v1.4; 2)updating the ASPI driver to v4.71.2; 3) updating DVDit! to v2.5.4; 4) updating Nero to v5.5.10.15

I have however, created the same on a miniDVD and it works on PowerDVD fine but very jerky on my Yelo 800. Could this be to do with the 7000kbps data rate?

Just for information, the DVD media is the Princo (ver. 1.1) DVD-RW general use disc that came with the writer.

Any ideas chaps???

Thanks in advance, James

Hi
A couple of things first are you using official firmware not a 'hacked version'

when I had the Pioneer..it would not write a disc of any brand with the hacked firmware

The Minidvd has a bitrate that is too much for your Yelo (most players wont even start to play back miniDVD

you are using Princo dvd-rw Discs
(I have 5 of the same here) and in my opinion are the worst Discs I ever had the misfortune of buying

your Authoring problem could be any number of reasons. the favourite being not a Compliant DVD Spec, although the discs would be the first place to start

I have never used DVDit so Obviously cannot comment

How large is your project? What speed are you trying to burn at?

Also, Nero and Set-top DVD compatibilty are well to say the least 'unlikely'. Try burning with something like VOB InstantCD/DVD. Use DVD-R rather than -RW.

1) Pioneer firmware is installed.
2) The write speed is x1 since I am not given any other options!
3) The project is ony 300Mb, hence I can get it onto a CD.
4) 'non-compliant DVD'...this is unlikely since I used my RTx.100 and default settings to create the .m2v stream, the audio is .wav as captured by the RTx.100 also.

I'll try again using a DVD-R disc and post back with any findings......

Used a DVD-R and the same response.

The Nero script reads fine upto;
- Burn process started at 1x(1,380KB/s)
- PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-104
- Communication failure
- Burn process failed at 1x(1,380KB/s)

Would it be any use if I post the Nero log file...it's mumbo jumbo to me?

What brand disc did you use

have you tried burning a different file authored with a different program

does your writer write a normal data file to a DVD disc

I cannot even burn data to a DVD disc, therefore my problem seems to lie with the DVD side of things 'cos burning CD's are fine.

Tried other media too (RITEK) and still the same stupid 'communication error'

Below is the log file generated by Nero:

Hi
just a thought but after reading your info...you are using
File 'Drivers\ASPI32.SYS': Ver=4.71 (0002), size=16877 bytes, created 17/07/2002 08:53:02

I have seen many People saying there writers wont burn correctly with version 4.71 aspi

I use version 4.60 and things might improve, if not I would be sending it back under warranty (if possible)

you mentioned in your 1st post that you updated ASPI did you update it from V4.60 or V4.70

all the dvd forums say v4.60 are the best, Obviously if you have updated from 4.60 and it was not working, it will be a waste of time going back.

another point you might try disconnect a hard drive or, another cd rom when you try to burn - Because if your PSU is not supplying enough juice it will also give errors when writing
failing any of the above, Buy a Sony 500A
LOL

I can email you asapi 4.60 if you cannot find it online

still struggling.....

power supply should not be a problem since i have an Enermax 550W unit installed.

I did have a brainwave though...the latest incarnation of windows media player has the ability to save media to CD and uses Roxio drivers and a cut down version of easy CD. This equals conflict, so I erased media player and got a tool from Ahead (nero) to removed all drivers etc.

At this point I was hopefull for a resolution but, alas the same fate.

Any more ideas? In desparation I am considering installing Easy CD creator just to see if alternative software will work!

James, you said that you can't write a data DVD. Do you mean that you can't even use Win Explorer to write data files to a DVD? If that is the case then it hardly matters what DVD burning software you try - the real basic stuff isn't working.

Cheers, JOVE

Solved it!

The answer was in the 'Pioneer A04 problem' post from Paul D, which sounds like the same problem I had.

Turned off 'DMA enabled' and switched to 'PIO mode' in the Device Manager and all is now well.

Many thanks for your contributions on this matter.

James
