Hello all,
I have to purchase a video editing computer for my school and I am looking at a DV500 or RT2500 system.
Can anyone please comment on their experience with a good vendor in the UK?
I can only buy locally, so please don't comment on vendors in other countries.
Thanks to all,
Luis

Hi Luis,

It might be worthwhile if you could let us know whereabouts in the UK you are.

I know that some reputable companies successfully offer technical support via a remote access link but there are advantages to actually having a supplier that really is local to you; I was going to say within a stones throw but… well you know…

Anyway I’m sure you’ve done some homework so I’m interested to know what your current thoughts are regarding the two products you have mentioned? If you have queries about their capabilities or suitability it would be interesting to see what answers of substance the dealers who visit here could provide.

Could anyone who has specifically purchased either Pinnacle Systems DV500 or Matrox RT2000 or RT2500 chip in here, and relate your experiences in respect of after-sales service, technical support or even the whole buying experience?

I’d say that would be a good measuring point on the level of satisfaction Luis is likely to receive from suppliers of those products.

Cheers,

Cheers,

Hi,
Thanks for answering. I am in Surrey around Leatherhead. I would prefer a vendor in my regional area if possible, and I imagine that many will be in the London region. I am most interested in the quality of the systems and their reliability and the support offered by the vendors, not just if something goes wrong, but also their general helpfulness in tech support.

Matrox RT2000 or RT2500 chip in here, and relate your experiences in respect of after-sales service,

Can't talk for technical support but the RT2000 is now very stable under Win2k, definately changed my opinion of it.

I've had a very bad experience with Evesham.com.
Had a RT2000 WinMe Athlon 1 gig.
PC would not capture properly - failed after 5 or 6 captures every time. Evesham were unable to cure dispite 3 tech visits and the PC being returned for 2 weeks. In the end they seemed to give up. I got a refund but wasted 2 months of my life!!!

I use CVP in Studley, Warks. I think they were Matrox dealers of the year last year, So they should be able to help you.

I had one of their RT2000 units, I did have a few hicups, which were probably as much my fault as theirs, but they always sorted things out for me fairly promptly. I would have no hesitation in buying from them in future.

Before buying from them I did check out a couple of other dealers, but I didn't get the right vibes!

Agreed , both of my rt2000 systems came from them ..... teething problems but nothing more than that.

Closer to home, try DVC in Brighton/Hove. Excellent service, training, and best of all they look after you afterwards.
