For years I've been using a 8mm video camera and would like to ingest the video into my PC and start burning DVD's. While researching the components, I'm having difficulty figuring out what I need to get the video into my PC. I have seen converters from $69 to bridges for $300. What features should I be looking for?

I take it your camcorder has an SVHS out socket. If this is the case then try and pick up a Pinnacle DV30+ secondhand with a copy of Adobe Premier 5.1. You should find one for around the $200 mark, and that will give you everything you need. Should your camcorder be a newer modle it may have a firewire digital output, in which case it will be even cheaper. A firewire card can be purchased for around $70/100 in the states and some come with a basic editing programme.
Look on the website for Videoguys a US firm. Here you will get a lot of help and advice, including what spec of computer you need. One thing you should try and get is a second hard drive (40G/B0 as video takes up an awful lot of disk space.

Thanks for the feedback. What about the products from Dazzle? Are those similar in function?
Dazzle seem to have collected a bad name in the video industry! check out the board for complaints against them.
There are a number of other A-Dv products to get your material onto your PC by much more reputable companies.
