London's Earls Court 2 plays host next week (Feb 7-9/Tues-Thurs) to VideoForum 2006 - the leading UK show for serious amateur camcorders users, video editors and DVD authors, and also an important diary-date for professionals.

The free-to-attend event, now in its 15th year, is said to offer 140 free seminars, along with exhibits and demos from around 130 companies. Included are big names such as Adobe, AMD (but not Intel), Apple, Avid (Pinnacle's new parent), Canopus (now owned by Thomson), Canon Broadcast, Ikegami, Matrox and Sony Broadcast.

Although Panasonic and its sister company JVC will be conspicuous by their absence, we're expecting a lot of visitors to get excited about Panasonic's miniature HD camcorder, the AG-HVX200, being shown by Top-Teks' and, perhaps, on one other stand.

Here's the preview - hopefully giving you a good idea of whether it's worth your while getting along. That said, if this sort of stuff is of interest, then a visit is almost certain to be worthwhile.

Oh, and it's fine if you want to use this forum thread as a way of liasing with people you fancy meeting up with at the show.

I'm expecting to be there Tuesday (wearing a HEXUS/DVdoctor polo shirt) and will play Wed and Thurs by ear - so it's possible they might be good days if you want to avoid bumping into me (no guarantees, though)!

;)

I'm hoping to be there throughout, depends how my back feels. I'm camping with DVC, and doing a session on Wednesday. I'll be happy to talk tech with anyone who wants to.

Get my test cards document, and cards for 625, 525, 720 and 1080. Thanks to Gavin Gration for hosting them.
Camera settings documents are held by Daniel Browning and at the EBU
My book, 'Circles of Confusion' is available here.
Also EBU Tech.3335 tells how to test cameras, and R.118 tells how to use the results.

I'll also be there Tuesday, Wed and Thurs, though I have to leave early on Wed afternoon to get to the recce for a shoot. Thursday morning I'm doing a seminar on multicamera shooting and editing.

On the Tuesday I'll be on the lookout for somewhere to act as a base for Rice Pudding Operations - hope that's still going to be possible, Chirpy - how could we survive without our annual fix of Mrs Chirpy's finest?

I usually come to the Forum on a Wednesday Ray, but if you can find somewhere for me I'd be grateful.

Chirpy's Big Breakfast can be heard on Radio England International. These are repeat shows (he's retired now) played Monday to Friday 8am-12 noon and repeated in the evening from 8pm-midnight. Also, Sunday 8am-12 noon. (Click link to listen) www.onlineradio5.com/2013/06/radio-england-international.html

Don't go to too much trouble...but preferably somewhere near the entrance with a fridge, a few round tables and chairs, serving bowls, spoons, serviettes and a sink to wash things in....nothing special. ;)

...I'll bring the rice pudding.

Thanks Ray.

That's it then - we've all missed it! I'd better tell Mrs. Chirpy not to bother getting the ingredients. :(

Okay, as you were, Bob's corrected it. I'll notify the wife! :)

No, John spotted it and zapped it - Gary PM'd me and I've now change the original.

Just to make absolutely sure, though:

The show is indeed in FEBRUARY.

Next week, to be more precise.

7th to the 9th.

Tues to Thurs.

Looking down the list of exhibitors I notice B&H of New York one the formost suppliers of camera/video eqipment in the states are shown as exhibiting.

If this is correct are they about to enter the Uk market?.

Anybody any knowledge.

Incidently I was fortunate to be in New York just before Christmas and visited there store.
WOW you name it they have it and you've guest it approx on average 2/3 the Uk price, including their taxes.

regards

Mick

But if they start selling in the UK they'll have to charge the same taxes as everyone else, there's no way they'll be immune. And beware of buying US versions, they might not work correctly at 50Hz video.

At the Production Show last year they had a stall, but it was just a couple of chaps and a pile of their catalogues. Maybe they like an excuse to come to London and visit relatives!
I've bought a fair bit of stuff from them in the past. even with import duties, VAT, etc, many things are cheaper than buying here, though one has to watch out for warranty status.

Sorry, it'll be a ''no show' for me at the Video Forum

I'm sorry everyone but after much deliberation I've decided that I won't be going along to the show tomorrow. I've had quite a bad chesty cough for the past few days which I hoped would get better but instead it got worse and kept me up most of the night. Hopefully the anti-biotics and cough medicine will see it off before too long.

My apologies to Ray L, I hope you didn't go to too much trouble trying to find me a serving area for the rice pudding. The annoying bit is that if I'm not going, Mrs. Chirpy won't be making any anyway, so it's not as if I was going to have to eat three large tubs of the stuff myself. I keep telling her that maybe it might help me get better but she just won't listen to reason! :(

Pity, I was looking forward to meeting old friends and new. :(

Sorry to hear that Chirpy hope you get better soon.
If it's any help I had a bad cough just before Christmas.
Managed to shake it off last week.

We missed you and the rice pud. DVC's show as splendid as usual, packed crowd every time, thanks chaps.

My session wasn't anything like as good as I'd wanted, I blame it on the roaring cold I've got, made it very hard to concentrate. But Tom asked the right questions nand kept me more or less on track.

I'll email my presentation to anyone who wants to see it., send me a PM containing your real email address, and I'll get it off soon.
