Back in the early days of video editing I had a Panasonic camera that used full size VHS tapes. I have lots of these tapes that i want to transfer onto DVD. I have a Matrox RTX100 that is capable of importing them into the computer and then writing them to DVD. This takes a long time, so I was thinking of buying one of those DVD/VCR combi player/recorders so I can transfer them straight to DVD without going through the computer . Can anyone recommend a machine that is up to the job and what the picture quality is like.

I bought a Panasonic DMR-EZ485V from a forum member here after many recommendations from this site. It did the trick, just can't get the thing to record "Off Air".
Beware that some are mono audio only ( VHS ) and wont give you best quality
I would suggest a VHS or svhs deck and a separate DVD recorder.
Look in curries / comet in an area just changed to digital free view , as analogue units get sold very cheaply.
50.00 for a standard DVD with HDD in it , last year , in Scottish Borders
Well, we've discussed this before, but I'll say it again: one of the big advantages of the Panasonic DMR-EZ485V over a VHS deck and a DVD recorder is that the DMR-EZ485V has a built in Time Base Controller. I really wouldn't dream of transferring VHS to anything else - in a professional capacity - without a TBC. Furthermore the DMR-EZ485V has the option of one-touch automated copying, finalising the DVD as part of the copying . If one is doing more than one tape - and I have done literally thousands - there are many advantages to the all-in-ones.
The DMR-EZ485V, BTW, is stereo.
Can`t see the DMR-EZ485V but there is a DMR-EZ49VEBK on Amazon for £229.37 would this be a later model.
