I want to buy a firewire card but which software would be best?

Pinnacle Studio 7.0
Ulead Uideo Studio 5
Premiere 6.0 LE

All under £100 with the card. Or is there some other inexpensive software which would be a better buy?

If you only have a budget of around £100, then I would suggest you go for Hauppauges DV Wizard.
It retails for about £99, and comes with Uleads, "Media Studio Pro 6 Special Edition" (which is all but the full version). It takes a little playing with to understand, but after only a few weeks I`m sure you will be it`s master.
It should fulfill your every need, and save you having to upgrade to bigger and better things later on.
Studio 7 is good but I feel you may quickly out grow this when the video editing bug bites.....

The Cameo 600 from Terratec is an OHCI Card with front bay mountable breakout box and Mediastudio Pro 6.0 VE which IS upgradeable to 6.5 - the full version.

If you're new to digital video editing and you just want to get your feet wet before you spend a lot of money, Studio DV from Pinnacle is a good bet. It includes Studio 7, which won an Editor's Choice award in PC Magazine, and a FireWire card. If money is no object, then try stepping up to the Pro-One from Pinnacle, for a little more than $1,000 you get real-time editing, transitions and effects. And it comes with the full version of Premiere (not LE).

I think of the three options mentioned, for a complete beginner, Pinnacle Studio 7 wins by a country mile.

I have used Pinnacle Studio 7 for a while now and it's a doddle to use. Excellent introduction to video editing and the support forums are very informative.

I suggest having a look around LynxDV for some very good software bundles & some keen prices.

i.e. Video Studio 5 & Media Studio Pro 6VE for around £60.00 or Premiere lite for £75.00 including the ADS Pyro + other stuff.

Hi,

I wont recommend any particular software - other than to hint....

You should try out a few BEFORE you purchase. Ulead is a company that offer trial versions... you should test these out.

John Price has pointed out a very good route to follow - check it out.

A Firewire card for £22 can be purchased from http://www.Dabs.com/ with Ulead Video Studio... Type in "Value" in the Fast search.

I'd also recommend a trip to Pinnacles forum site for Studio7 just to read the postings - some get deleted!!

There is of course the SoftDeko site to look at for links to and information about lots of editing software:

Visit the http://www.softdeko.8m.com/atod.htm for Links to all software

or try http://www.softdeko.8m.com/video_editing_record.htm http://www.softdeko.8m.com/video_editing_record2.htm http://www.softdeko.8m.com/video_editing_record3.htm http://www.softdeko.8m.com/video_editing_record4.htm
just to name a few :)

Note - Altered instructions for Dabs - use "Fast" search.

Thanks eaglehart for all the links.

good idea about the trials - I didn't realise they so many did them. For anyone interested in the same question as me there's a 30 day premier trial available as well
