PLEASE NOTE: This thread often fills 8 to 10 pages, by then it can take a couple of minutes to post a reply, this is not a fault in the system.

Here we are at the eleventh consecutive thread of:

'So how about an 'Over 50's' page?'

This is the place to come if you just want to be friendly and let everyone know what you’ve been doing to pass the time of day. You don’t have to be ‘over 50’ to visit, it’s open to everyone from our youngest to oldest member. (Even those who have just turned 40 )

If you didn’t get to see the last few posts to the previous ‘Over 50’s’ page you may want to click here to catch up on what you’ve missed.

So without further ado, let’s commence with:

’So how about an ‘Over 50’s’ page? – Part 11’

Cheers,

Chirpy.

Actually John, I've been so busy 'cross threading' everything that I didn't have time to notice! I tried to close Part 10 before you and Stuart posted your two messages and had to go back and redo them. However I got there in the end and everything should flow along much more smoothly now...I'll have to close and reopen 'Tennis, elbow' before long!

Cheers,

Chirpy.

G'night everybody,

I've got an early morning start which I'm looking forward to. I'll be filming the concrete pour which - from past experience - is quite exciting.

Hopefully it won't rain and they'll be able to power-float the surface with one of these...

Anyway, I'll let you know how it went tomorrow evening.

Dear Chirpy,

Did you get my e-mail this morning ?

I have tried to e-mail another forum member for a couple of days, as they offered to help me with something, and have just managed to get back to them..

Obviously they may be away at the moment.. or just unable to reply..

But as i have been sent an e-mail by peter and have not recieved it, just want to make sure its not my e-mail up the spout "

Hi Stuart,

Yes I did get your e-mail but as I've only just got home from Dovercourt (powerfloating by floodlight!) I wasn't able to answer it this morning, sorry.

I'm just going to have a brief look around the forum and then have a good long soak in the bath. I've just done a twelve hour stint fiming and my knees and ankles are aching. I was pleased with what I was able to film though and I won't need to go back until Monday.

Cheers,

Chirpy.

Evening all, thats a long day for you isnt it Chirpy? (to be out I mean). Bet Mrs Chirpy would like one of those in the picture for a Rice Pud stirer...

Glad you got the mail Stuart, my first e mail "Mooblie" (triple), no wonder computers foul things up they do it in triplicate without being told to!!!!.
Must put this old pc back in its case, ready to go back in the morning, clear up my little office area, load some video clips, and pack the stuff for the kart in the afternoon.
Chirpy, there is a better way of doing a ton on a moped, one rope tied to handle bars. big magnet on the other end, and stick it on the back of a passing porker, just make sure its stoping where you want to stop, till later.regards to all Pete.

Yes Pete, it was a long day, but then again, a lot happened.

I don't think one of those power-floats would be much good in the kitchen - they're big, messy and run on petrol!

The road from Colchester to Dovercourt isn't too friendly for mopeds - it's along the main route to Harwich so I get passed by lots of heavy traffic en route to Holland.

Anyway, I'm having an early night so, goodnight all.

Went to the tate in Liverpool last week too John.

Seen the Philip Guston display, which was quite fascinating, but a little disturbing, at the same time as being provoking. I liked it.

there is also another exhibition on, called telling tales. I recommend any one in the vicinty of Scousr land go see, as it is an excellent display, possibly one of the best I've seen at the Livepool Tate.

Lots more to say folks, but will update you in the near future.

...and I've been shovelling and shifting sand at the site for the past few hours. There wasn't all that much to film today so I thought I'd do some manual work. I felt a bit self-conscious watching a couple of 60 year old women pushing wheel barrows about and two seventy year olds raking it onto the foundations of the car park whilst I was just standing around doing nothing. So I decided I ought to be helping too.

Anyway, now my back's stiffened up and I think I'll go and soak in the bath in case I'm not fit to do my window cleaning tomorrow.

Hi Folks,

Thankfully the aches and pains dissolved in the night so I was able to get my work done this morning. I must admit though, I felt like leaving the last few until tomorrow.

I've just said "cheerio" to my dad who's gone to Malta for a month or so. When he gets back he's decided to go and live in a residential care home. The type where you can do your own cooking if you want to. He's 87 and up until about a year ago he could walk a lot faster than I could!

There's nothing for me to film today so I'm taking things easy. Tracey and Kirsty have gone up the road to get their hair done. I think I'll just run the animal clippers over my head, that should do for a couple of months!

Cheers,

Chirpy.

"Yes" he said, answering his own question as the 'Chatter' forum suddenly turned into a ghost town.

Hi everyone (or even anyone), wasn't it a beautiful evening yesterday? The sky was clear and the full moon shone brightly. Today has been lovely too, I've been filming at Dovercourt and we should be in for a really busy weekend as everyone's on holiday which means 'more hands to the pump'!

I put a new front wheel on my moped this morning as the other one was slightly buckled. I presume it must be slightly smaller because -according to my mileometer - the journey to Dovercourt was 0.15 miles longer than with the other wheel!

  • Wheel one: 13.6 miles.
  • Wheel two: 13.75 miles[/list] Kirsty has gone to Luton for a week and Tracey's just taking things easy.

Seems like she's not the only one.

Bye for now,

I don't normally add anything to this page (i don't normally get the chance!) but if there's anyone about (which there doesn't seem to be), here's a reminder to alter all your clocks, watches, cookers, microwaves, video recorders, oh yes and hubby just mentioned the clock on your digital cameras as well. They all have to go forward one hour, unless you live in one of those countries that doesn't have to. In which case, please ignore this message.

Quiet here over the weekend wasn't it! I was busy filming over at Dovercourt for five days in a row. I've got today and tomorrow off though and maybe Thursday too. I'll have to phone up to make sure that nothing important is happening. Then on Friday and Saturday - maybe Sunday too - they'll be blockpaving the driveway and car park.

BTW Suart, are you happy with the 'Starter' pack you got from 1 & 1, or do you wish you'd gone for the 'Home' package instead? I'm thinking about upgrading from my 'Web Forwarding' package but I'm not sure which one to take.

Thanks Stuart,

I'm still 'umming and arring' over which package to get, but I don't really need to get the 'Business' package so it's just between the 'Starter' and 'Home'. I could always try one for the '60 day money back guarantee' and then change to the other if I'm not happy with it.

Would suggest go with the Starter (which is cheaper), and upgrade at a later date if you feel you need to ?

P.S. have put a couple of links in your Shredder question thread
The second is the home site if you click shredder from the menu, you will find loads of possibilities.. including your own one.

Yes thanks Stuart, I've been looking at the Shredder pages but my first option is to visit the chap in town to see if he has a washing machine spare part that is compatible. I just hate the idea of having to throw away a good shredder just for the sake of one silly piece.

I think I will go for the 'Starter' package as it's a lot cheaper than the 'Home' package. It'll probably be more than adequate anyway for my needs.

Eveming all,

We're back - it's been quiet here hasn't it?

Venice was great - the sound was so different from anywhere else I've been.

And - out friend's house must have the best view in Venice - on the Canal de san Marco with a view that sees the entrance to the Grand Canal and the whole of the classic view of Venice and only 10-15 minutes stroll from the piazza san Marco - wonderful.

Nice!!! The only nice thing is that the sun shone all day and we got our blockpaving finished. However, the wind has been quite strong and the windchill factor meant I've had a zip-up jacket and a windproof coat on all day and I was still cold. For someone who manages to clean windows in the winter wearing just a t-shirt and trousers some days, I'd say it was quite a bitter day here.

Apart from that - Hi everyone!

Now I think I'll watch football on the telly.

Morning all,

I think everyone's been enjoying Spring as no-one seems to be here.

It's nice, isn't it? - I missed it last year, I was in the bathroom.

January brings the snow
Makes your feet and fingers glow
February's Ice and sleet
Freeze the toes right off your feet
Welcome March with wintry wind
Would thou wern't not so inclined
April brings the sweet spring showers
On and on for hour and hours
Farmers fear unkindly May
Frost by night and hail by day
June just rains and never stops
Thirty days and spoils the crops
In July the sun is hot
Is it shining? No, it's not
August cold, and dank, and wet
Brings more rain than any yet
Bleak September's mist and mud
is enough to chill the blood
Then October adds a gale
Wind and slush and rain and hail
Dark November brings the fog
Should not do it to a dog
Freezing wet December then:
Bloody January again!
(January brings the snow
Makes your feet and fingers glow).

Aah - but this is my favorite

This song starts with, I think, very typical English Understatement.

The English, the English, the English are best
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest.

The rottenest bits of these islands of ours
We've left in the hands of three unfriendly powers
Examine the Irishman, Welshman or Scot
You'll find he's a stinker, as likely as not.

The Scotsman is mean, as we're all well aware
And bony and blotchy and covered with hair
He eats salty porridge, he works all the day
And he hasn't got bishops to show him the way!

The English, the English, the English are best
I wouldn't give tuppence for all of the rest.

The Irishman now out contempt is beneath
He sleeps in his boots and he lies through his teeth
He blows up policemen, or so I have heard
And blames it on Cromwell and William the Third!

The English are noble, the English are nice,
And worth any other at double the price

The Welshman's dishonest and cheats when he can
And little and dark, more like monkey than man
He works underground with a lamp in his hat
And he sings far too loud, far too often, and flat!

And crossing the Channel, one cannot say much
Of French and the Spanish, the Danish or Dutch
The Germans are German, the Russians are red,
And the Greeks and Italians eat garlic in bed!

The English are moral, the English are good
And clever and modest and misunderstood.

And all the world over, each nation's the same
They've simply no notion of playing the game
They argue with umpires, they cheer when they've won
And they practice beforehand which ruins the fun!

The English, the English, the English are best
So up with the English and down with the rest.

It's not that they're wicked or natuarally bad
It's knowing they're foreign that makes them so mad!

For the English are all that a nation should be,
And the flower of the English are Donald (Michael)
Donald (Michael) and Me!

Hi SIFI and John,

Yes, I have been filming and things have been moving along quite quickly since I last wrote. All the supplies have been arriving over the last two days and the scaffolding is all erected. All that needs doing is the floor tiles in the toilets, which are layed before the hall is built! They'll be done tomorrow and then covered with hardboard to prevent any damage before we build the hall next weekend. So that means I'll be laying fairly low until Wednesday. Then you probably won't hear from me again until next Sunday or Monday evening.

I got a good bargain at Jessops earlier this week. I was looking for a wide-angle lens for filming inside the smaller rooms next week and the only one they had was a Raynox 0.3X Semi Fisheye 'Clip-on' lens. However it was in a 0.5X Super Wide-angle box. So they knocked the price down from £23 to £15 because they couldn't find the original packaging. I didn't need the box anyway!

Well, time to watch the football!

Bye for now,

Did you enjoy the race Chirpy?

I've got to say that F1 bores the pants off me nowadays. I used to really enjoy the Grand prix but it has become such a one horse race it really doesn't hold my interest anymore. Incidentally I haven't seen the result but let me guess, a Schumacher win? The title is over already in my opinion.

I'm gonna watch the Chelsea game in a bit and I'll be rooting for Fulham.

Hi SIFI,

Yes I enjoyed the GP, it was a one-two for Ferrari which I was pleased about as I felt sorry for poor Rubens who hadn't finished a race this season until today.

Your team's trailing at the moment (Chelsea 1 - Fulham 0) but there's still 45 minutes to go so anything could happen. I just hope whoever wins goes on to knock Arsenal out in the final. Same too with the League, if Man U don't win it, I hope Liverpool do!

Right, back to the telly again (second half).

Cheers,

Chirpy.

Well it was a nice day in Oxford when it started and I went to see my mother in London, and it was a nice day there too.

Bad result at the Grand Prix though - I really have no time for Michael Schumacher (I suppose ever since he won by running Damon Hill off the track), but his brother Ralf I do support.

Indeed. A solution will have to be found if HMG intends to sell of the analogue spectrum use of Bands IV and V. If ITV Digital closes and no-one runs the service, then HMG can't sell of the channels simply because the National Carrier status of BBC is required legally as the means of communication in times of national trouble.

Imagine the situation if we were at war with someone whom Murdoch liked. How would HMG get its message out to the public?

I must admit I am very worried about the sell-off.

At the moment radiomicrophones share spectrum with analogue TV, slotting in the gaps.

If everything was sold off there would be no room for radiomicrophones - and if no radiomicrophones, no television programmes.

So I can see the point where we have a nice lot of digital television channels and no programmes to show on them.

A lot of TV programmes can use as many as 20 or more radiomicrophone channels - so this spectrum is essential.

I only hope the government comes to it's senses.

Don't worry John, it'll be all right on the night. Common sense will avail. And don't forget that radio-mics can sit on top of digital tv because of the way the modulation works, the spread-spectrum nature of COFDM manages to ignore interference this way.

I've told everyone I'll see if I can also put together one of these six part 'fly on the wall' documentaries because there were so many funny moments and situations that will probably have to be left out of the main film. Oh what fun!

I had a real scare coming home yesterday afternoon and almost got myself killed. Since I opened my new website I've been returning home late at night from the build and posting the photos straight onto the site. This has sometimes taken me until 3.00 am. and then I've been shooting off to Dovercourt to start filming early the next day. I managed to do this five days in a row - being encouraged by the feedback on my 'guestbook' page and also by the number of visitors (including John and Stuart).

Anyway, all this burning the candle at both ends was taking its toll on me - walking around a construction site, up and down scaffolding, in and out of the loft and onto the roof for 12 to 15 hours a day is quite tiring! It's been really hot here too.

Yesterday, as everything was finished quite early I decided to come home at four o'clock. The sun was shining through my visor all the way home and it was quite difficult to see, as well as that I was quite exhausted and someone had said "be careful" but I didn't take much notice as I've never heard of anyone falling asleep at the handlebars!. About 5 miles from home I was finding it difficult to keep my eyes open and suddenly I found I had veered over to the centre white line! It was only a gradual thing - probably took about ten to fifteen seconds with my eyes shut! It frightened the life out of me because a few seconds later two cars came screaming towards me on the other side of the road.

To make matters hit home even more, the headline on the front of today's local paper said: MOTORCYCLIST DIES IN CRASH. When I read the story, it had happened just a short way from where I'd dozed off.

Anyway, that's enough from me, i'm going to update my site.

Cheers,

Chirpy.

Wots Dovercourt?

I bought my Audi from a garage called Dovercourt. The car is great. Dovercourt are crap.

Is this relevanT to anything apart fromn the fact that I am over 50? (just)

johnhardcastle,

The 'Dovercourt' in question is a place near Harwich where, for the past seven weeks, I've been filming the local congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses preparing a plot of land to build a new Kingdom Hall. The hall was constructed this weekend - with a little help from between 300 and 400 volunteers.

Chirpy.

P.S. There isn't a Dovercourt garage in Dovercourt. (but there is one in Colchester)

It seems this page stops when Chirpy is away - at the moment, anyway.

So, I'll have to look at the Dovercourt site to see what he's doing

Hi folks,

No I'm not at Dovercourt until Friday when the carpet fitters arrive and the landscaping gets under way.

Sorry I've been gone a long time, I'm trying to do five things at once:

  1. Clean the pond.
  2. Install Windows XP.
  3. Get Norton Anti Virus to work. (So I can...)
  4. Read my email.
  5. Reconfigure the Guestbook on my website as a few annoying people keep leaving Urls to unsavoury website addresses.

John, the 'headless man' is trying to shove a bung up a loo outlet so we can have a water test - 'stand by your pan'!

Nice to hear you've visited my site, I'm going to have to redo it soon because I can't use any more pages and I've still got 98Mbs. of space to use!

Well, I've got to check that the pond isn't overflowing!

See you later,

Chirpy.

May I just comment Chirpy on a wonderfully designed site.

I was well impressed when I checked it out a week back. The design is simple yet really effective, and I do believe you have a good eye for good design. It is also well organised and to the point.

Just to prove a point about good design is that, to be fair, your project going on at Dovercourt would probably in most instances have me yawning off to sleep (no offence, just not my thing), but because of the aethsthetic value of the site I've found myself reading up and actually enjoying the site. So thank you!

The only one thing I think I could possibly comment on is that 'I think' the stills could have maybe done with a polarizer/UV filter, but that's just to my eye, and others may not agree. Otherwise a great website, and I look forward to any other quality pieces of work you throw at us.

Dear Tim and Pete,

Thank you for your comments, I was really quite taken aback to read them. However I really can't take too much credit for the design. The company I use, http://oneandone.co.uk have a very clever 'Website Creator' which allows you to scroll through many different ready-made designs. I just chose the one that closely resembled what my site was about, changed the colour scheme (which is similar to our bedroom wall!) and altered anything that didn't quite suit my requirements. I created my homepage within about 45 minutes. I agree with you though about keeping it simple.

My problem now is that I'm limited to 12 pages of which the guestbook takes up two. As I still have many more pictures to include, I'm aware that if I put too many on a page, those with slower modems will be waiting ages to see the latest ones (I should've done them in reverse and put the latest at the top of the page) which is why I have a seperate page for each day. At some point I will have to change the design completely because the Website Creator is not compatible with the disc they sent me to design my own page. But I will go for a similar design.

Re. the photos needing a poarizing/UV filter. All I used to take the pics was a facility on my Sony TRV320E Digital 8 camera. It holds a 128Mb. memory stick which holds 1320 pictures. I can also just use a still frame from the video to upload to my site. I've had to use the 'capture to file' facility in MSP to send them to a 120Mb. floppy disk and then upload them from there. Although since I loaded Windows XP I can't seem to get it to work. Maybe I'll use the player that comes with XP.

I tried to use a serial port cable that came with the camera but it seems to be broken - only three of the four wires gave a signal when I connected a voltmeter to them.

Tim, when I get time I'll clean them up with Paintshop Pro - some of the indoor shots suffer from the fluorescent lighting.

BTW, Pete, I've added your (brief) message to my guestbook.

Bye for now - got to try and add some more pics.

I couldn't have thought of a better ending than getting a job, but at the same time I've had people to support me through this shite period, in a fashion..........not very good...........but, better than nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Morning all,

Hi Mick, hi Tim, sorry I'm neglecting the chatter forum but thank you all for being an understanding lot. You're right Tim, keeping the website up to date is a hard slog - but it's very rewarding when I look at the feedback I'm getting from here and from private emails and letters to the guestbook.

I should've updated it last night but I was so tired when I got home after a 13 hour shift all I had time to do was upload a picture of our indoor pond - one of the carpet fitters from London said she'd heard all about it from other friends of mine but she'd never seen it. So - in line with my sense of humour - I stuck a picture of it on one of the photo pages! It comes after:

End of part one

INTERMISSION

END OF INTERMISSION

Part two

(I borrowed that idea from the Beatles film: HELP!)

Anyway, I've just got time to add some more pics before the Grand Prix gets under way!

Bye for now,

Chirpy.

P.S. Sorry Tim, I'm so wrapped up in my website I forgot to wish you well in your new job.

It was the AGM of the Federation of British Tape Recordists in Milton Keynes yesterday.

We had to change the name as no-one really uses tape much nowadays.

The new name is British Sound Recording Association - much more modern.

And - don't forget - the British Amateur Recording Contest closing date is only 2 months away (end of June) and we would love more video entries - please

Stuart, ideally music needs to be recorded by you. However, if the music you use is copyright-free or you have written permission you should be OK.

Dear John,

The Ejay Samples, are small sounds, that you piece together yourself on a "timeline" and add further sounds "clips" to make your own music.

IE with the 32 track sound mixer you can add different "sounds" to each to make up a whole song of your own.
All samples are royalty free.

So the actual finished "song" is of your own making, and therefore yours to do with as you please, so to speak....

If it's all royalty-free you should be fine.

I would probably copy the relevant bit saying this and send it in with your entry to be sure.

Hi Sifi, no have not sorted it yet!!,I am going to try just sorting some clips from each of the races for them to post with the results,so will get the books out to try and do some single frame outputs from prem. The trouble is this was the first time I did any videos for then, then had to go away for a couple of days,so its all become a rush,I intended to take up some edited tapes at the next race day and just play them through the projector, and see if any one wanted copies,I did not exspect the club to come straight to me so fast,Many thanks for the warning.Pete.

Chirpy.

Chirpy,
I hope you are feeling better this morning,I think this forum is fantastic everyone is so friendly, although I knew that of course having met some of you at the Computer Video stand at Olympia (my first try of Mrs Chirpy's rice pudding) and then at Wembley the following year. I missed the rice pudding then tho!

I realised the 5000th member was Tim's Sally as I have sadly never met Prince Andrew.

Thanks also to Peter Grendon for my first E-Mail from the forum I am just off to read it now. at this rate I will be catching up with Stuart and we will need a second P.C although if I need any help on the tecnical spec I will know where to come and ask.

Best wishes to you all

Afternoon one and all,

Yes thanks Sally, I'm feeling much better. It couldn't have happened at a worse time, I'd just begun to update my website - having posted a message saying the next update would be at ____. I managed to get one picture posted and suddenly had to rush to the loo. Just as I was posting the next picture I got stomach cramp and had to rush to the loo again! I think about an hour and a half went by before I managed to add any more pics.

Yes the forum members are a very friendly and helpful bunch - always knowing the right thing to say at the right time...as you can see from SIFI's comment.

It's not like me to lay-in, but these last two months have caught up on me so I didn't get up until about 10:30 this morning. (I beat Tracey and Kirsty by at least an hour!) Then I washed the dishes from last night, and I've just finished cleaning the aviary. We're going to sell the birds - complete with aviary - as there's too many other thing to occupy our time.

Now I have to update my website again so I'll say goodbye.

Cheers,

Chirpy.

P.S. So what's Stuart been up to then?

Actually he's watching the snooker, and looking a bit grumpy .

I think the novelty of me getting my own replies to post's is wearing a bit thin now!

To be honnest he worked very hard in the garden over the past few day's and I think his leg is hurting more than he likes to let on.

Time for me to administer lots of TLC I think

although I expect he'll be posting at stupid O'clock when i'm watching the telly.

Evening all,

And welcome to the forum Sally B-M, I suppose I will have to get Ol'ga on when we get to 7,000

We have started redecorating the living room this weekend - very hard work - but at the rate we are going [b[Chirpy[/b] would have been able to build several Dovercourts

All we now have is a bare room and lots of holes that still need filling where we pulled off the old skirting board.

Maybe we can start painting next week.

OH GOODNESS
I've never written a "Dear John" letter for public consumption before!!

Thank you for the welcome. I hope your decorating isn't going too badly, these things always seem like a good idea at the time, then you take off the old wallpaper or paint and remember why you hadn't started redecorating in the first place. still when it's finished it all seems worth it.

Hello to everyone else as well, even those who may have thought I was going to be a one day wonder. No chance I love this forum.

Hi Chirpy,

I've just been looking at Dovercourt again - what a shame the girl's pigtails were put right.

On the photo of the foyer, you could just see one door had pigtails up - you should have left it that way, much more fun

Anyway, from the photos you all did a great job - though thr only photo of you was sitting down

I just hope my living room will look as good when we finish.

Hi John,

Just to show everyone what you're talking about...
This is the way one of the loos looked up until Sunday afternoon! On the back of the head is a piece of paper which you peel off to reveal the sticky adhesive. Well only the bits on the end of the pigtails were removed and the head was stuck on the door in this position.

If you look closely at the second door from the left in this picture...
...you can just about see the pigtails turned up.

On Sunday, Charlie (one of the Elders in the congregation) said now that we'd all had a bit of fun he'd better put it the right way up...
...just in case.

In our hall we have a different design with just a white circle for the head: Small for children, medium for the woman, large for the man. We often swap them around or even remove the head altogether! Who said we don't have a sense of humour!

Yes the only photo of me is one of me sitting down. When I've waded through the hours of video I hope to add more photos of the groundwork done before the hall was built. There's at least one of me pushing a wheelbarrow.

Interestingly the building inspector wasn't going to 'pass' the drains as he had no recollection of seeing the work being done. Thankfully I just happened to be there on the day they were installing it and I was able to show him a 'still image' to jog his memory. I've also put a short four minute video together showing the gas pipe being installed in a trench. If I hadn't filmed it the gas board would make us dig it up and reinstall it.

I'm sure all your hard work and effort will pay off in the end John!

Cheers,

Chirpy.

Hi Sally,

No that facility doesn't exist. You either have to write your post in 'WORD' and then copy/paste it to here, or come back and edit it if you got it wrong - which everyone then knows about because there's a tell-tale bit at the bottom of your post to say you've edited it.

There is another way though, but you can only do it if you spot the mistake before anyone else posts a reply...

If you keep pressing your 'Back button' until you come back to your original message you can change the bits that are wrong and repost it. Then you need to delete the first one with the mistakes in.

However, sometimes when you press your back button, all you get is a blank reply box. Then things get really complicated...

  1. Go back to your faulty message.
  2. Click on the 'Edit/Delete Message' icon above it.
  3. Put right any mistakes.
  4. Copy the whole message - then delete it by clicking the 'Delete' tick-box.
  5. Press 'Submit Reply'.

(You've now deleted the message but still saved a copy of it.)

  • When the forum page returns, click on the 'Post Reply' icon at the foot of the page.
  • Paste your reply into the reply box.
  • Press 'Submit Reply'. You've now replaced your faulty message with the replacement one...and increased your total posts by one!

It's very long winded I know, but me and John Willett do it all the time - or a variation of it. Usually we add the revised post before deleting the faulty one.

    Hope that helps,

    Chirpy.

    That's It! Well done Sally.

I'm not usually in or on the forum so early on a Saturday. In fact me and Kirsty went out early this morning to do our 'door knocking' but it was one of those: "...doesn't look as though it's raining much - however we'll probably get drenched if we stay out" type of mornings, so we came straight home.

As Tracey will be taking Kirsty to have her hair done soon, (I wanted a perm but they couldn't find enough hair to warrant using a comb!) I thought I'd have a go at updating my website as it's been a few days since I put any pics on it. I'll be able to add a few comments to the forum while I'm here.

Well I know there are people about 'cos there's been a lot of posts around the forum, but it's gone quiet over here.

I didn't get up until about 10:00am. which is unusual. I only made one post and then helped Kirsty with her IQ scoring as she'd gone to bed when the answers came up. Sadly they didn't have a category for 14 year olds so she has no idea what her IQ is.

I watched the Grand Prix at lunchtime and - despite being a Schuey fan - was not at all impressed with Ferarri for making Reubens give his place up to his team mate. I know Schuey made Reubens get onto the top podium and even gave the trophy to him, but it wouldn't have meant the same. I'm not a national anthem person but I'm sure Reubens would have loved to hear his one playing. Bad call Ferarri, you deserved the 'Boo's' and you ought to have your constructor points deducted and Schuey's and Reuben's points put right for today's race. (that's the least that ought to happen)

I felt sorry for Norwich losing out on the Premiership. Oh well, I'm sure Birmingham deserved their win.

    Ha ha Chirpy

The telephone point comes into the living room and I had drilled a hole in the ceiling and run a cable upstairs for extensions and computer modems.

However, Ol'ga is paranoid about seeing cables and, originally, the caple was stuck in small trunking up the corner of the room behind a bookcase (which is not there any longer so the cable is more visible).

I have now removed the trunking and chased the cable into the corner so now it is totally invisible - it now appears out if a blanking plate next to the main input phone socket

Boo! - that's an impersonation of John chasing his cable into the corner! It's okay John, I did know what you meant, it's always made me laugh when that expression is used.

Tracey had a visit from one of her friends who she knew from Luton before we got married. Her and her husband moved to Colchester about ten years ago but now they're moving to Ipswich. Tracey's quite sad because she's always got on very well with them.

I've had a busy day helping out and doing the ironing - just popping in to add the odd comment to the forum. Otherwise, it's been a yucky day, outside it's not raining but it's trying very hard to. It's just very murky.

    BFN,

NO - it's hard enough work as it is.

I'm not sure exacly where the hi-fi is going and the cables will be hidden mostly behind bookshelves - at least, that's the plan.

"Nothing" luckily Sally has been hard at work,

Im sure when she has the time she will be back to have a chat.

    Dear John,

Is it one of those jobs that just gets "bigger" and more envolved as you go on, or do you both have it all planned.?

I normally start with a plan and then throw that out the window as soon as i "add" ideas as i go

But it's taking longer than Ol'ga thought it would.

    Morning all,

    Morning Chirpy

Yup - I, too, could not access the boards late last night. And also, Chirpy, I could not get an e-mail through to you in reply to yours to me. It kept bouncing until I gave up (after about 6 tries)

And its still not working as I have just this moment had a message saying "cannot route to chirpy.net" in reference to an e-mail I sent to you a few minutes ago.

I only hope you see this

    John

Sorry everyone, I racked my brains trying to work out what the problem could've been.

    1. Upgrading to Windows XP - that caused problems with Norton Antivirus 2001?

    2. Changing each email account so it didn't go via Norton?
    3. My new 'Ontrack System Suite' PC Maintenance and Security program?
    4. Updating Incredimail to the latest edition?

In the end I tried accessing my www.chirpy.net homepage and got an error message. It turned out that they couldn't debit my bank account as I'd recently got a new visa card and the number was different. So they froze my web account - which has been put right now but my emails may take a bit longer. Seems I've lost all the 'bounced' ones though.

    Cheers,

    Chirpy.

    Chirpy,

If you remember, a long long time ago, in a galaxy far far away. There was a thread titled, So what's wrong with my BMW?. This was blatantly off topic, and peeps kept getting miffed with the amount of off topic threads. It was then that I suggested the creation of a place to go where we post all of our off topic stuff, and henceforth the creation of 'Chatter' by Bob.

The old thread, So what's wrong with my BMW? has disappeared and I never remembered what was actually wrong with it.

LOTR, at last you got your message posted! I must have seen about three different versions and couldn't work out why you kept deleting them. Then I realised it was because you were 'quoting a quote'. Whenever anyone tries to do that it comes out wrong - the '

    Quote:
' bit always appears on the page. There is a way around it but it's complicated! Anyway, well done for digging up Bob's original thread.

Tim, believe it or not I never read that BMW thread! I do remember it but as with many threads that don't stir my curiosity, I didn't bother to look at it.

Re. Why does it no longer exist? Probably because Chaifox - the originator - (I think) was kicked off the forum for something or another.

BTW, once again, 'Thanks' for getting Bob to start the 'Chatter' forum - we love it!

There we were, just about to have dinner, when the doorbell rang (it's a buzzer actually) and Gordon & Shirley from Dovercourt were standing there with a large bouquet of flowers for Tracey...

...It was from the congregation, who wanted to express their thanks and appreciation to Tracey for having to cope without me while I was filming them building their new hall.

    Hi all,

Thankfully I don't have anything to do today - not outdoors anyway. I've just got some accounting to do from the luxury of my comfy executive swivel chair! How boring.

It's wet and windy outside, am I glad we did all our work at Dovercourt in March and April! Funny, when we did a similar project in Clacton two years ago, we had good weather then too. It doesn't always work out that way though.

So 'Chatter' is one year old today, I wonder how many posts we'de have made if the 'Chatter' forum had never opened? I doubt I'd have even reached 500 posts by now! Mind you I'd have got an awful lot of other stuff done. Not as much fun though!

I guess if 'Chatter' hadn't opened we wouldn't be having the 5000 members party would we? So: "Thanks Bob, thanks Tim, thanks mooblie".

Best of all it's brought many of the members a lot closer together as we've come to know each other better. "Thanks everybody".

Well, back to the boring work.

    Cheers,

    Chirpy.
